Blizzard of the North

Probably the censor’s most powerful card: it makes 1/3 of the map unoccupiable for the next round and can even freeze wars. It also reduces the amount of syncanite available on the market.

How to play it: Reduce the market stock of syncanite by 4. In the next phase I, no player may place armies in Avadur (the nation outlined in blue). If ‘War’ is active, you can only carry out conquests in Avadur if you have the ‘Intrigue’ doctrine or control the capital city of Avadur. You may not move into or out of Avadur if you do not meet this condition.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips that may be helpful:

  • This card is wonderful as a threat! Because the next phase I will offer 1/3 fewer resources for everyone!
  • Blocking the North blocks 8 of 11 Syncanit on the map and is ideal for restricting access to Syncanit and thus bribery cards. Ideal before a Chancellor election – especially given the fact that the Schagzeilen deck can score a lot of points on Revolution!
  • If you are at war, you can use this card to freeze 1/3 of the playing field and thus prevent troop movements in that area. Keep in mind, however, that players with the ‘Intriguer’ doctrine are not affected by this restriction during war.
  • Victory in the war is almost always achieved by occupying the three capitals. With this card, you block one of the capitals!
  • The south has exactly 13 fields! Use this map to freeze your enemies in the north and achieve victory by conquering the entire south. (By controlling 13 of 19 fields!)

FAQs and Clarifications

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions, clarifications, and perhaps even one or two unconventional methods for playing the respective card, the special case of which has been regulated here.

How long does the effect of this card last?

Only for the next cycle and only in phase I!

Do we still gather resources when we stand on affected fields?

You are not allowed to actively plant or harvest, but if you are already in the field, you will reap the full yield at the end of I.

Under what circumstances can I bypass the closure of the northern fields?

Only in war with the Intrigue doctrine – be aware that the Strategos could deliberately choose this to exploit the situation!

If this card is played in Phase IV and war is then declared, can I deploy my armies in Avadur?

Yes, you can, but keep in mind that in Phase I, you cannot move your armies unless you get Intriguer.
