Doctrin

These cards give you another asymmetry, which is particularly evident in Phase I. Your armies gain a special ability in the worker placement bidding competition, which is either offensive, defensive or more economically oriented. In addition, doctrines provide you with game materials free of charge each cycle. While all other players draw one at random, Strategos has a (limited) choice here.

Doctrines primarily increase asymmetry in warfare. They offer each player a passive ability and an active effect. This active effect is considered ‘anytime’ and therefore functions like ‘anytime’ cards.

General Tips

Here are a few tips that may be helpful:

  • These cards are redrawn every cycle, providing you with free materials each cycle. Therefore, you will never run out completely!
  • Sometimes it can make sense to coordinate with players who have a different doctrine in order to gain an advantage in Phase I. For example, it makes sense for players with ‘Malice’ not to kill each other, as the other players would otherwise benefit from this.
  • In war, the effects of these cards change. Their exact effect is defined in the ‘Battle Order’.
  • Some effects affect specific doctrines and thus select new players each round. Pay attention to the dependencies that arise among you as a result of the doctrine!
