Intrigue

This doctrine gives you 2 bribe cards and increases the yield of fields in I by 50%. This is rounded up, which means that one resource becomes two, rather than doubling! This also applies to harvesting during war!

During war, you also gain the ability to take tactical actions at the start of battle and can place mines in your own or empty fields to restrict your enemies’ movement!

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips that may be helpful:

  • Place individual armies in fields with only one resource. You will harvest twice as much there, and your rivals will have to deploy two armies to outbid you, only to harvest one resource in return. An ideal tactic for positioning yourself defensively!
  • Alternatively, fill the fields with a high yield to benefit massively from the percentage bonus. Field cards that explicitly increase yields, such as Dravaren Hunt, are particularly powerful here: 8 Syncanite in the Lands of Eternal Night can quickly turn into 12!
  • Use this doctrine to move through fields blocked by the Blizzard of the North, a headline map from the Censor.
  • In war, you can employ a hit-and-run strategy: at the beginning of each battle, you draw a tactical measure, which gives you opportunities for dice manipulation and other abilities. After winning the roll, you can withdraw from the battle at no cost (compared to all other doctrines), so you don’t have to sacrifice an army to do so. Finally, you may hold up to 4 tactical measures in your hand, which is one more than the rest! (However, you may only play or draw a maximum of 3 at a time, just like the others!)
  • Use your active doctrine effect to place a swarm on the field that will massively deter opponents from attacking. These can also be placed on empty fields, creating natural barriers. In this case, these swarms are ‘ownerless,’ which means that they will also attack you if you cross them!

FAQs and Clarifications

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions, clarifications, and perhaps even one or two unconventional methods for playing the respective card whose special case is regulated here.

Do I also receive more yield from field cards such as ‘Special Trade Zone’?

No, ‘Special Trade Zone’ is not a harvest, so the effect of Intrigue does not apply here. If the harvest of a field is increased by cards such as ‘Dravar Hunt’ or ‘Robber Barons’, Intrigue does apply because it explicitly addresses the harvest.
