Kidnapping

Kidnapping is a card that only makes sense when playing with dignitaries. It allows you to block other players’ dignitaries until they pay you capital or, alternatively, to even re-auction the dignitary.

How to play it: When the Pariah plays this card, they choose another player. That player may no longer use the effects of their dignitary until they have paid a ransom of 20 capital times the active cycle. This payment may be made at any time, as Advocate card effects are excluded from the player trading rule. Alternatively, all players except the pariah can use the card to re-auction a player’s dignitary. The auction is then held immediately and proceeds according to the normal rules for dignitary auctions. If no player bids on the dignitary, it is placed under the stack.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips that may be helpful:

  • This card is especially useful if you are bothered by another player’s dignitary effects. Play this card to block them.
  • You can also put pressure on a player with a lot of capital in order to gain capital. This is useful if you need capital for your plans and the dignitary cannot stop you.
  • The All effect of this card is very powerful. You should have the most capital when you use it. Then bid for an opponent’s dignitary to use the effects or to prevent your opponent from using them.
  • You can also use the All effect to auction off your own dignitary. This has the advantage that the dignitary is then considered new, and all effects that have already been used become usable again.
